        <text><span class="style4">                     Welcome to Jim's Easy Book Inventory!             Hello from the land of almost perfect weather -  southeastern Arizona:  Cool in summer, warm in winter,</span><span class="style15">                           and NO earthquakes!</span><span class="style4"></span><span class="style6">    I developed this stack, with some help and encouragement from my friends (Thanks, John!), because all of the book inventory stacks available kept track of way too much information or of the wrong type of information. While in my student persona, I need to know a lot of specific information; for my personal library, I don't want to have to keep track of the publisher, year published, or any other information that is commonly put into some of the more complex stacks.  Also, I do not own a copy of any commercial database program, so many of those available on Info-Mac and other sites were of no use to me.      While I have developed this stack for my own use, suggestions are welcome, and if I think they are worthwhile, I may add them into the next version of this stack.    If you find this stack of use, please send me at my address below  $8.00 or an equivalent contribution to the Foundation for Economic Education, 30 South Broadway, Irvington-on-Hudson, NY 10533, USA (blatant plug). <grin>                                          </span><span class="style10">Using the Stack</span><span class="style6">     </span><span class="style11">Warning</span><span class="style6">: </span><span class="style12"> Upon entering this stack, your permission level drops to 2, meaning you are able to enter data.  Upon leaving the stack, your permission level goes back to whatever you had it set before entering the stack.  So be very careful not to just turn your machine off when you are done with the stack.  </span><span class="style13">BE SURE TO EXIT GRACEFULLY</span><span class="style12">!!  You have been warned.</span><span class="style6">     To enter a new book, press the "New Book" button.  Entering a book's information is pretty much self-explanatory - just enter the book's data in the fields in normal library format:  last names first, "A", "An" and 'The" removed from the front of titles, etc.  There are menus for type, cover, and rating (thanks, Jon); just click and highlight the selection you want.  There </span><span class="style14">must</span><span class="style6"> be a price and the number of pages entered.     To delete a book, just press the "Delete" button.     To find a book title or author, press the "Find" button and a standard HyperCard message dialog box will open.  Fill it out and go.     To sort your books, just go to the sort card by pressing the Sort button.  Select by which field(s) order you want to see your inventory, then press the "Sort" Button.  You will be returned to the first card of your inventory so you can browse your books.  Several assumptions have been made in the sorting system.  The order of sorting is: Title, Author, Type, Cover, Rating.  This means that if you want to see all of the different ratings you have given one specific author, you must perform two sorts - first sort by Rating, then by Author.  Otherwise, you will end up with Authors sorted alphabetically and categorized by Rating.  Thus if you have given one author several different ratings, then the books that author has written will not necessarily be together, but will be separated into the various ratings.      I have included extensive help balloons, so you had better be using System 7.  If not, then why not?  Upgrade today.  However, I sincerely doubt you will need to use any of the help functions.     I know this stack will work under System 7.  It has been tested on a Mac IIci, and a Quadra 850, with the Apple 13‚Äù color screen and a Radius PrecisionColor Display 19‚Äù montior, and worked well each time.  Obviously, I cannot make any positive statements about other systems, but I didn't do anything unusual or funny in this simple stack, so it should work on other systems.                                              </span><span class="style10">Still to do</span><span class="style6">     ‚Ä¢  Write a report feature for the stack.     ‚Ä¢  Figure out how many other categories of book types there are.  (Suggestions are welcome.)     I hope you enjoy this little stack and find it to be as much use as I do.Jim Emmons<jemmons@huachuca-emh8.army.mil>201 North Garden Ave.  #56Sierra Vista, AZ 85635       ‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì‚Äì                                                 Legal Stuff     Jim‚Äôs Easy Book Inventory was written by James Emmons.  Copyright ¬©1994  James Emmons.  All rights reserved.     Macintosh¬Æ is a registered trademark of Apple Computer, Inc.      The version of HPopUp
